QR Code Ad Fuck-up of the Day.

(via)
Yes, on an airport luggage conveyor belt. That'll work swimmingly.
I'm imagining some YouTube worthy brawls.
Too bad. It's an otherwise smart idea/media buy by P&G's Oral-B.
Ad agency: Beacon Tokyo.

Yeah, I'm waiting to get home/to my destination and keeping an eye out for my bags, so in the meantime I'm going to distract myself by heading to an oral hygiene website. As if. As you said, a fairly clever media buy but not practical. The number of responses will be counted on one hand.

it's not that stupid, the conveyor spends a majority of the time stationary

There's plenty of oral penetration in Japan, sell your toothbrushes to the ladies on their way home from Kabukicho.

Yeah, I'm with Anon here. Often you spend 10 of 15 minutes jealously guarding your spot in front of the conveyor while it is still stationary, before it starts moving. It's pretty dull, and you're kind of avoiding eye contact with all the other filthy, grumpy people from your flight.

Problem is, only the people standing by the bend in the conveyor get a clear shot of the QR code. Come to think of it, only those people get to see the "punch line" of the ad at all; the majority only see the supposedly-clean teeth. Would make more sense to have the QR code placed so that those who only see "clean" teeth can scan it and get the rest of the story online.

Clever, but why not include Oral-B messaging somewhere for the 99% of people who don't scan the QR code?

There might be more to the ad, this photo doesn't show the entire picture.
